The Needle and ThREAD: Stitching for TNNA member, Jen Funk Weber, founded Literacy campaign in 2007. In an effort to promote literacy and needlework this program encourages people to stitch bookmarks and deliver them to designated drop-off locations. Bookmarks are then donated to schools and libraries where they are used as rewards for reading accomplishments. Ask your local needlearts shop to get involved, or start a participating group yourself.
We are asking all needlearts enthusiasts to get involved and stitch bookmarks at your local Stitch N’ Pitch event! It is easy to find cross-stitch and needlepoint bookmark kits by contacting your local needlework shop or searching online.
Funk & Weber Designs and other independent designers have created special Needle and ThREAD bookmark patterns that are sold wholesale to needlework retailers. Designers donate ten percent of profits from the sale of these patterns to literacy projects. Ask for them at your needlearts shop.
